S. Maggie Schubert, AIA LEED AP BD+C
A native of a small town in the Virginia Piedmont region, Maggie grew up with a love of nature and its textures. Her design is influenced by her memories of the materials and landscape of her childhood. Her love for textures and layering are prominent throughout her design work. Maggie received her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech in 2008. During her studies she spent a semester at Virginia Tech’s Center for European Studies in Architecture in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland.

Following her studies, Maggie moved to Richmond to join SMBW Architects in February 2009. While practicing at SMBW, she had the opportunity to work on a range of projects both public and private, including the Main Street Station Shed restoration in Richmond, academic buildings for Washington and Lee University and the University of Richmond, and research facilities for Virginia Tech, as well as corporate interiors and residential design. In 2017, Maggie joined 3north to focus on the development of her residential practice and contribute to the collaborative culture of the firm. While at 3north, her residential projects included renovation and additions to homes along Richmond’s historic Monument Avenue as well as new construction of a rustic modern home in Williamsburg.

In 2019, Maggie followed her heart and began to practice on her own. This pivot point in her career has allowed her to focus on the design and construction of her own home. She believes a space should influence those that experience it, and Maggie wanted to live in, experience, and be surprised by her design to help transform the future work of her clients.
